“The young women (and men) we met — as I said, we were meeting lots of students — are struggling with many gender issues. Being on a trip with a movie like ‘Anita,’ which discusses sexual harassment, opened up conversations on gender violence. As the week came to a close, my biggest shock was that we spent every day talking about violence against women. This issue was on the minds of all the people we met, due to the government’s banning of “India’s Daughter.” By banning the film, the government assured that everyone, or at least everyone we spoke with, would see it. What we were told was that people would have probably ignored the film had the government not stepped in with its censorship.”
