All-Female Ambulance Corps Doc “93Queen” Goes to Abramorama

"93Queen"

It won’t be long before audiences are introduced to the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in the United States. Abramorama has acquired U.S. and Canadian theatrical rights to “93Queen,” a press release announced. Paula Eiselt’s directorial debut tells the story of a group of Hasidic women in Brooklyn who came together to form the corps known as Ezras Nashim.

“At its core, ’93Queen’ is about change from within,” Eiselt told us. “Change  —  especially feminism! — can take shape in many different ways; it doesn’t look the same in every community. ’93Queen’ is a unique and intellectually honest portrayal of what women’s empowerment looks like in the Hasidic world.”

Founded by Rachel “Ruchie” Freier, a Hasidic lawyer and mother of six, Ezras Nashim was launched to ensure “dignified emergency medical care to the Hasidic women and girls of the neighborhood,” according to the doc’s official synopsis.

“I am thrilled to collaborate with Abramorama to introduce wide audiences to the groundbreaking women of ’93Queen’ as they redefine Hasidic culture from within and model eye-opening progress that can be mirrored nationally during these tumultuous times,” said Eislelt.

Abramorama’s President & CEO Richard Abramowitz added, “On the heels of ‘RBG’ comes another hero for our times: Rachel ‘Ruchie’ Freier. She and her colleagues prove the obvious: that intelligence, determination, and strength are not defined by gender, even in the face of millennia of tradition.”

“93Queen” made its world premiere at Hot Docs earlier this year. The doc opens July 25 in New York with a release in LA and other select cities to follow.
