Phylicia Rashad Cast in CBS’s ‘For Justice’ Pilot; DuVernay Will Direct

The matriarch of the Huxtable family is coming back to weekly TV.

Variety reports that Phylicia Rashad, best known for her role as Clair Hanks Huxtable in “The Cosby Show,” has been cast as a series regular in “For Justice,” a civil-rights drama from CBS. Ava DuVernay is set to direct the pilot and will serve as an exec producer on the series.

Rashad will play Georgina Howe, a lesbian who is described by Variety as “a savvy Washington player who has faced discrimination for her race and sexual orientation and fights to protect the independence and integrity of her high-profile Civil Rights Division.”

“For Justice” will focus on a female FBI agent working in the Development of Justice’s Civil Rights Division who is torn between two families: her radical family at home and her law-enforcing family at work. No word yet on who will play the lead.

Rashad’s recent credits include a recurring role on USA Network’s “Psych” and co-starring with Sharon Stone and Alicia Silverstone in 2013’s “Gods Behaving Badly.” She’s currently filming “Creed,” the new “Rocky” movie.
