Deadline is reporting that Marisa Tomei has signed on to a first-look development deal at HBO, which will see the actress developing, producing, and possibly (hopefully!) starring in projects for the network. This is Tomei’s first crack at TV producing, having made her feature producing debut with “Loitering with Intent,” which the Oscar winner starred in alongside Sam Rockwell.
Tomei can currently be seen in “The Rewrite” with Hugh Grant as well as “Love Is Strange,” a well-received love story featuring Alfred Molina and John Lithgow as partners who are temporarily separated by New York’s horrific real estate market. The busy actress is also in production on “Love, the Coopers” co-starring Diane Keaton and Olivia Wilde.
Over the years, Tomei has worked steadily in TV, film, and theater, but she hasn’t taken on a recurring role on the small screen since 2006 in FX Network’s “Rescue Me.” It seems likely that this producing gig at HBO will lead to Tomei starring in an HBO show that she’s worked to develop and will serve as producer on. She’s played a lot of supporting characters as of late, so we’re hoping to see Tomei in a starring role.
