Over ten years ago, Julie Taymor’s Oscar-nominated musical “Across the Universe” brought the music of The Beatles to the big screen in its own revolutionary way. Now, it’s returning to theaters once again.
Starring “Geostorm’s” Jim Sturgess and “Westworld’s” Evan Rachel Wood, “Across the Universe” follows the tumultuous love story between Jude and Lucy as they navigate rock n’ roll, drug experimentation, and anti-war protests throughout 1968.
As this year marks the fiftieth anniversary of the 1968 protests, “Across the Universe” will return to theaters for one weekend only in commemoration. Thanks to Fathom Events, Taymor’s film will screen in over 450 theaters across the US from July 29 – July 31. The special re-release will include an introduction by the director. For information regarding theater locations and tickets, check out Fathom’s website.
Since “Across the Universe,” Taymor has directed “The Tempest,” starring Helen Mirren and Felicity Jones, and a theatrical production of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” The “Frida” helmer’s next project is an adaptation of Gloria Steinem’s memoir, “My Life on the Road.” The much anticipated project is in pre-production and stars Oscar winner Julianne Moore.
