Trailer Watch: Shailene Woodley Lets Her Anger Consume Her in Final ‘Insurgent’ Spot

The “Divergent” series’ ass-kicking heroine Tris (Shailene Woodley) is under a whole lot of pressure in the newest — and final — trailer for “Insurgent.” “This is the only chance we have to save what little civilization we have left,” emphasizes her brother, Caleb (Ansel Elgort, Woodley’s co-star in “The Fault in Our Stars”). Tris is sporting a new look (“I wanted something different”), but the same rebellious attitude (wielding a gun and standing up to Jeanine, the ultra-intimidating leader of the evil Erudite faction, played by Kate Winslet).

The last spot we saw for “Insurgent,” the second installment of the “Divergent” series, was special effects-heavy and plot-light. This trailer reveals that Tris and Co., including love interest Four (Theo James), are officially fugitives on the run from Jeanine, who’s “never gonna stop coming after [them].”

“Dark times call for extreme measures,” Jeanine intones with the coolness and detachment of a sociopath justifying murder. The trailer is action-packed, featuring lots of impressive-looking fight scenes, as well as some romance (Tris touching Four’s face en route to Smooch City). We also get the chance to see the emotional toll all of this unrest is taking on Tris via Johanna (Octavia Spencer,) the Amity faction’s representative, who warns, “I know you’re angry, Tris, but you’re letting it consume you.”

“Divergent” made nearly $290 million worldwide, so we have a feeling that tickets for “Insurgent” are going to sell fast, especially since Woodley likely won over a lot of new fans with “The Fault in Our Stars.”

“Insurgent” opens March 20. Pre-sale tickets are available now.
