You may recognize Anika Noni Rose from the stage (she won a Tony for her performance in Caroline, Or Change), TV (The Good Wife, Private Practice), or the big screen (Dreamgirls). The multi-talented actress can now add producer to her already impressive resume; she has optioned the TV/film rights to Bone Street Rumba, an urban fantasy book series by Daniel José Older.
If you’re unfamiliar with Bone Street Rumba, don’t feel out of touch: The first installment, Half-Resurrection Blues, was released mere weeks ago. Published by Penguin’s Roc Books imprint, Half-Resurrection Blues focuses on Carlos Delacruz, an in-betweener existing somewhere between life and death and serving as an agent in the “New York Council of the Dead.”
No details have been provided regarding the specifics of Rose’s involvement with the project — for example, whether or not she will be acting in it — other than her role as a producer. Deadline reports that Rose optioned the work through her Roaring Virgin Productions company.
It’s looking like 2015 will be a great year for Rose, who is already slated to star in Spike Lee’s newest feature, Spinning Gold.
