Prolific Spanish director Isabel Coixet (My Life Without Me, Learning to Drive) will open the 65th Berlin International Film Festival (Feb. 5–15) with her latest film, Nobody Wants the Night. The Spanish-French-Bulgarian co-production will also participate in the international competition.
Starring Juliette Binoche, Rinko Kikuchi, and Gabriel Byrne, the adventure film takes place in 1908 in Greenland, focusing on a group of Arctic explorers. Needless to say, it’s always encouraging to see women-directed films in prominent showcases at high-profile film festivals.
“I’m very pleased that Nobody Wants the Night will open the 2015 Berlinale. Isabel Coixet has created an impressive and perceptive portrait of two women in extreme circumstances,” commented Dieter Kosslick, director of the Berlinale. The festival has featured six previous films by Coixet.
