Kristen Stewart, Kate Winslet, ‘Frozen’ Director Jennifer Lee Among Mentors for ‘Twilight’ Short Film Contest

As anyone with a glancing familiarity with Bella and Edward knows, the Twilight fandom is powerful, passionate, and legion. A new short film contest called “The Storytellers — New Voices of the Twilight Saga” seeks to extend the universe while encouraging female writers and directors like Stephenie Meyer and Catherine Hardwicke.

To that end, some serious A-list talent has been recruited to advise promising contestants. Meyer, Kristen Stewart, Frozen director Jennifer Lee, Oscar winners Kate Winslet and Octavia Spencer, Emmy winner Julie Bowen, and Women in Film President Cathy Schulman have signed on to mentor the competition’s five finalists, who will also each receive $50,000 to complete their shorts. The grand-prize winner will be eligible for a $25,000 cash prize and a new Volvo.

Participants are encouraged to first write a script set in the Twilight universe. (Screenplays are also eligible for 25 cash prizes of $500 and $3000.) The shorts will premiere exclusively on Facebook.

Voting began yesterday for which character(s) should take part in the contest. Screenplay outlines will be due December 3, finished scripts by January 19, director pitches by February 16, and the short films by May 29.

Sponsors for this fantastic opportunity include Lionsgate, Tongal, Facebook, Volvo Cars, and Women In Film. Learn more about “The Storytellers — New Voices of the Twilight Saga” contest.
