My Big Fat Greek Wedding is one of the biggest success stories to ever emerge from the independent film world, having grossed $368 million worldwide on a $5 million production budget (and a screenwriting Oscar nod for writer and star Nia Vardalos).
Universal has decided that it won’t let gold run through its fingers again. Nia Vardalos’ sequel to the romantic comedy will be distributed by the studio.
Vardalos will resume writing and starring duties. The second-parter will hinge on the revelation of a family secret, with a second big, fat wedding for the Portokalos family.
