“An artist develops. You do things by instinct, but we learn, we suffer, we mature. I have to feel what I do,” says Maria Callas in a trailer for a new doc about the iconic opera singer. “Maria By Callas” charts the soprano’s journey from her roots in New York City to international stardom.
“Glory goes to people’s heads. Not my head. Glory terrifies me,” Callas emphasizes. The spot explores her personal and and professional identities. Described by a fan as “undoubtedly the greatest singer of this century,” Callas reveals she dreamed of a more conventional lifestyle and kids, but “destiny is destiny, and there’s no way out.”
“Maria By Callas” recently made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film opens in LA and NY on November 2.
