Trailer Watch: Kathryn Hahn Wants to Have a Baby in Tamara Jenkins’ “Private Life”

"Private Life"

“Having a baby is an immoral act,” says Kathryn Hahn in a new trailer for “Private Life.” She cites “overpopulation, climate change, [and] rise of neo-fascism” as reasons not to reproduce. But that’s exactly what Rachel (Hahn) wants to do. And she and her partner Richard (Paul Giamatti) are taking what their family describes as a “by any means necessary approach.”

Written and directed by Tamara Jenkins, “Private Life” sees the so-called “fertility junkies” exploring every possible avenue of having a child when they encounter infertility issues. In the meantime, the 40-something artists welcome their niece (Kayli Carter, “Charlie Says”), a college student, to crash at their place.

“Private Life” marks Jenkins’ follow-up to 2007’s “The Savages,” a portrait of adult siblings forced to care for their ailing father. She received an Oscar nod for writing the film, which she also directed. Jenkins made her feature debut with 1998’s “Slums of Beverly Hills.”

“I Love Dick,” “A Bad Moms Christmas,” and “Transparent” are among Hahn’s recent credits.

“Private Life” begins streaming on Netflix October 5. The film premiered at Sundance in January to raves.
