Juliette Binoche to Be Honored at Göteborg Film Festival

Juliette Binoche will be joining fellow Oscar winner Alicia Vikander at the 2018 Göteborg Film Festival. The fest has announced the French actress as the recipient of the Honorary Dragon Award. As previously confirmed, Vikander will be accepting the Nordic Honorary Dragon Award. In addition to receiving the award, Binoche will hold a Master Class and the fest will hold a retrospective of her work.

Previous recipients of the Honorary Dragon Award include actress-director Liv Ullman and director Margarethe von Trotta.

Binoche commented, “First I want to thank Göteborg Film Festival for this honorary award, I take it as a wink, a tap on the shoulder, or even a hug! I almost want to answer that I hope it doesn’t mean anything too serious! I feel very lucky doing what I’m doing, I still have the same passion, still have a lot to learn, the joy I’m sharing on the sets are gold to me! Being an actor is a work of service. The key for me, is to do it with full commitment!”

“As one of the most influential actors of our time, Juliette Binoche has behind her a wide range of iconic performances that have helped shape modern European film history,” said Jonas Holmberg, the fest’s Artistic Director. “She has a unique talent for invoking deeply felt passion and sorrow with the smallest of gestures, and can be found exploring the full poetic range of melancholy romance in a number of unforgettable films. At the same time, she is a versatile actor who breathes life into her characters across a wide spectrum of genres, from drama, to comedy, to tragedy.”

Last seen in Claire Denis’ “Let the Sunshine In,” Binoche’s other recent credits include “Ghost in the Shell,” “Clouds of Sils Maria,” and “Godzilla.” She won an Academy Award for her role in “The English Patient” and received a nod for “Chocolat.”

Göteborg Film Festival runs from January 26 to February 5.

Binoche’s upcoming projects include Denis’ “High Life,” a sci-fi set in space, and Naomi Kawase’s “Vision,” a drama about a journalist.
