Trailer Watch: A Feminist Icon Gets Her Due in “Dolores”

“Dolores”

“Latina girls need to see statues of you,” we hear Dolores Huerta being told in the trailer for a new documentary about the activist. As the official synopsis for “Dolores” puts it, Dolores Huerta is “one of the most important, yet least known, activists in American history.” A staunch defender of the rights of women, immigrants, and workers, her memory is frequently overshadowed by that of the man she co-founded the National Farmworkers Association with: Cesar Chavez. “Dolores” aims to change that.

“Women cannot be written out of history,” one of the doc’s characters says. Hillary Clinton adds that Huerta is “not not afraid to speak truth to power.”

The rousing trailer features an impressive array of icons — including Angela Davies and Gloria Steinem — speaking about Huerta’s legacy.

Check out the spot below, and meet the woman who first said “Sí se puede” (“Yes, we can!”). “Dolores” opens in theaters September 1.
