The latest movie star to sign up for a limited small-screen engagement is Sharon Stone, who’ll play the Vice President of the United States in the political thriller Agent X on TNT. Stone will join the small cadre of fictional female politicos currently on TV, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Veep, Tea Leoni’s Madam Secretary, and President Alfre Woodard on State of Affairs.
Stone’s character will be Natalie Maccabee, an ambitious woman initially reluctant to take on the largely ceremonial duties of the vice presidency who then discovers that her position would make her in charge of a mysterious and highly trained figure willing to do anything to protect American citizens. It’s an intriguing premise that could serve as a jumping-off point to ask interesting questions about power, justice, crime, and punishment.
The 10-episode miniseries will debut in the latter half of 2015.
