One of the first projects coming out of Gloria Sanchez Productions — Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell, and Adam McKay’s new shingle for female-centric comedies — will be screenwriter April Prosser’s female-friendship film Plus One.
Prosser’s screenplay sounds kinda like a spinoff of Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy’s misadventures from Bridesmaids (which I think we can all agree was one of the highlights of that film): a woman comes out of a long-term relationship and discovers that all of her friends, save one brassy, borderline-obnoxious gal pal, have gotten hitched and are too swaddled in domesticity to party like single people anymore.
News came today that Plus One will be distributed the Weinstein Company, which is certainly a vote of confidence for Prosser’s script. An earlier screenplay, the Black Listed The One That Got Away, is currently in development at Amazon Studios.
