Watch: A Mother is Terrorized by Her Child’s Favorite Book in ‘The Babadook’

When it debuted at Sundance this year, writer-director Jennifer Kent’s debut, The Babadook, became one of the festival’s breakout hits, with critics praising the film as a “flat-out masterpiece” and “the best Australian film in years.”

The film also recently swept the awards at the horror/genre-themed Fantastic Fest, collecting trophies for Best Picture and Best Screenplay for Kent, as well as Best Actor and Best Actress for stars Noah Wiseman and Essie Davis.

Now the official US trailer has arrived. Davis plays Amelia, a young widow with a six-year-old son, Samuel (Noah Wieseman), whose behavioral issues at school lead her to medicate the young boy. But Amelia soon starts to realize that the Edward Gorey-like figure terrorizing her son’s nightmares might not just exist in his head.

The Babadook opens in theaters and on VOD November 28.
