Powerhouse Female Producers Join Forces to Launch New Company

Big-league UK producers Alison Owen (Saving Mr. Banks, The Giver, HBO’s Temple Grandin) and Debra Hayward (Les Miserables, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Atonement) have teamed up to form a new company. The just-created Monumental Pictures represents a truce of sorts.

“We’re both exhausted from competing with each other,” Owen said of their pursuits of the same projects. “Ultimately, I could see the only way to beat Debra was to join her.”

Described as “long-time friends and colleagues,” Hayward and Owen will “keep the costs small but the vision big” with their Monumental film and TV projects. The two producers last worked together on 1998’s Elizabeth.

Owen’s upcoming films include the period romance Tulip Fever and the feminist history Suffragette.
