From my latest Forbes post on how the progress for women writers and especially directors on the small screen has stalled:

Women are stuck, and that is even more clearly illustrated in the data released by the Directors Guild of America yesterday, which had a title on the press release entitled “Employers Make No Improvement in Diversity Hiring.” The DGA looked at 3,500 episodes produced in 2013–14 from network and cable shows. The numbers are devastating — white women directed 12% of episodes and women of color directed just 2% of episodes. The lion’s share of episodes are directed by white men at 69%. The figures show that the numbers for white men decreased and the number for men of color increased (it seems that Tyler Perry directed a lot last year and that accounted for the increase), but the number for women DID NOT CHANGE.
