Sandra Bullock takes her kids on the boat ride from hell in “Bird Box.” Directed by Oscar-winning Danish director Susanne Bier, the post-apocalyptic thriller sees Bullock playing Malorie, a mother of two struggling to keep her kids alive and safe from a mysterious, deadly threat that’s decimated humanity.
“Listen to me,” Malorie tells the children. “We are going on the trip now. It is going to be rough,” she says of the two-day journey down a treacherous river. “If you hear something in the woods, you tell me. If you hear something in the water, you tell me. Under no circumstance are you allowed to take off your blindfold.” That’s right — they’re heading down rapids blindfolded.
The entity wreaking havoc on earth can take on the form of people’s worst fears. Malorie’s worst fear seems to be that it’ll take her children.
Bier’s “In a Better World” took home the honor for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2011 Oscars. She most recently directed award-winning spy series “The Night Manager.”
Bullock was last seen in heist comedy “Ocean’s Eight.”
“Bird Box” launches on Netflix December 21.
