Women in Film and Video Seeks DC-Area Screenwriters

When you think of Washington, D.C.,
congressional battles and presidential photo-ops are probably what come to
mind. Lesser known is the community of diverse screenwriters in the nation’s
capital — people who have worked in all areas of the government, from the halls
of the White House to the top-secret offices of the intelligence community, as
well as those who don’t mind staying far away from Quantico or Langley.

To support this community of
storytellers, Women in Film and Video-DC (WIFV)
is launching the Spotlight on Screenwriters program and asking for submissions
from area screenwriters. Scripts are reviewed by a panel of media-industry professionals for consideration. Selected scripts are included in a spec catalog
that will be provided to producers and financiers looking for film projects to
back. Select scripts will also be featured as part of the 9th Annual
ScriptDC national writers’ conference taking place on November 14–16, 2014.

Erin Essenmacher, WIFV President, reveals that this new
endeavor is also kicking off the 35th anniversary of the organization.

“The timing couldn’t be better
 — WIFV is thrilled to spearhead this new initiative to showcase DC’s
screenwriting talent. The Spotlight on Screenwriters is a prime opportunity for
DC-area screenwriters to get their projects in front of major producers — a
sort of spec-catalog of scripts that represent the best and the brightest of
local talent.”

In order to be considered, each screenplay will be
read by three judges and evaluated, and the third and final submission round is just a couple of days away on July 30. Scripts must have Copyright Registration and
WGA Registration.

Interested applicants in the DC
area should visit www.wifv.org — it could be a chance to see your
original concept debut on the big
screen. Prospective producers and financers interested in a copy of the
finished catalog should contact director@wifv.org.

Spotlight on Screenwriters is sponsored
by the D.C. Office of Motion Picture and Television Development,
Interface Media Group, Script Magazine and The Writers Store.
