New York’s Women’s Project Theater Hires New Producing Artistic Director

After a tumultuous shake-up last month, the Women’s Project Theater in Manhattan has found a new producing artistic director in Lisa McNulty.

She will be leaving her position as the artistic line producer at the Manhattan Theater Club to embark on a return of sorts to the Women’s Project Theater. McNulty’s association with the organization goes back nearly two decades, when founder Julia Miles hired her in 1997 as the literary manager. McNulty has also served as the theater’s associate artistic director and casting director.

“I can’t wait to come back to an organization that feels like home, and to move forward in a fresh spirit of adventure,” commented McNulty.

The company also announced five new board members: Sandy Ashendorf, Atoosa Rubenstein, Jenna Segal, Robin Zarel, and Onute Miller.

The off-Broadway theater is “the nation’s oldest and largest company dedicated to producing and promoting plays written and directed by women, who receive only 20% of the professional opportunities nationwide.”
