Orange is the New Black Wins Big at Creative Emmys

Orange is the New Black took home three trophies at last night’s Creative Arts Emmys, including an Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy award for Uzo Aduba, who plays Suzanne, AKA “Crazy Eyes.”

Aduba thanked the OITNB team for a show “that lets everyone be represented in such a beautiful way” and her mother for moving from Nigeria to the US “to make a better life for her family.” It was the Massachusetts native’s first Emmy.

Picking up her fifth was Allison Janney, who received the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama prize for her role in Masters of Sex as the lonely wife of a closeted gay man. Among the many people Janney thanked on the podium was “the crew guy who got me a shot of bourbon before my first sex scene.”

Jehane Noujaim’s documentary about the Egyptian protests, The Square, won three awards for directing, cinematography, and picture editing. Her film was also nominated in the Best Documentary category at this year’s Oscars.

Jane Lynch was recognized for her work as the hostess with the mostest on Hollywood Game Night.

The Creative Arts Emmys also paid tribute to Sarah Jones, the crewmember who was mortally struck by a train in February while filming the Gregg Allman biopic Midnight Rider.

The main Emmys will take place next Sunday on August 25.
