HBO to Air Docs on Monday Night Year-Round

Documentarians better get their HBO pitch ready, because the premium cable channel is in the market to buy a whole lot more nonfiction content.

It looks like the parade of boobs and guts on Game of Thrones will fund a whole lotta docs. HBO has announced that it will run nonfics on Monday night year-round, including “timely encore presentations,” i.e., repeats. The cable channel has a muti-year deal with Susan Lacy, creator and executive producer of PBS’ American Masters series, to direct and produce documentaries.

This is great news for documentarians in general and women directors in particular, as the latter are much more highly represented in nonfiction filmmaking.

Future subjects include Richard Nixon, Pamela Smart, and Russia’s anti-gay laws.
