Yasmine Al Massri is taking on producing duties for her next project. The “Quantico” and “Miral” actress is set to star in and produce “Juliet,” a feature drama about a bereaved astrophysicist that will shoot in New York later in 2019. Deadline broke the news.
Al Massri will take on the titular role of Juliet, an astrophysicist trying to rebuild her life after the loss of her husband. “Juliet” follows the character over the course of the one-year anniversary of her spouse’s death.
As writer-director Bandar Albuliwi explains, Juliet’s career also informs the themes of the film. “Juliet is an astrophysicist who specializes in the multiverse theory. The film ultimately gives our audience hope that even though we may have screwed up in this universe, perhaps we didn’t in another,” he said.
Albuliwi and his “Peace After Marriage” collaborator Assal Ghawami will join Al Massri as producers on “Juliet.”
“It’s a beautifully written script. Once you read it, you immediately know you are connected to every character. I became an actor because of scripts like this,” Al Massri told Deadline. “Although bringing Juliet to life scares me because it will take me out of my comfort zone and challenge me in every way, I can’t wait to be her.”
From 2015-2017, Al Massri played twin FBI recruits Nimah Amin and Raina Amin on “Quantico.” The ABC drama wrapped up last summer after three seasons. “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” “Crossbones,” and “Caramel” are among her other credits. She also directed, edited, and starred in the 2006 short film “Boum… Tac.”
