Trailer Watch: Shonda Rhimes’ How To Get Away With Murder

A full trailer has arrived for How To Get Away With Murder right on the heels of ABC’s upfront presentation. Unsurprisingly, it looks very addictive — the legal thriller is co-created and exec-produced by Shonda Rhimes and producing partner Betsy Beers, after all. Peter Nowalk, who has previously written for both Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal, co-created How To Get Away With Murder and will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Oscar-nominee Viola Davis stars as Annalise Dewitt, a magnetic law professor and highly successful criminal defense attorney. Dewitt’s class is not at all typical: its name should tell you as much. Most of the learning in How To Get Away With Murder seems to take place outside of the lecture hall, with students/hopeful protegees hanging on Dewitt’s every word. The trailer is loaded with inappropriate liaisons, power plays, and drama — everything you would hope and expect to find in an offering from Rhimes. Dewitt also looks like she’ll be an interesting, morally ambiguous character.

How To Get Away With Murder will air on ABC Thursdays at 10pm. In fact, Thursday evening will be a full night of Shonda Rhimes’ shows with Grey’s Anatomy kicking off the night at 8 and Scandal at 9. Also, you can expect to see more Rhimes-created/produced shows on ABC in the coming years. Vulture reports: “ABC’s Shonda
Rhimes dynasty is safe: After months of negotiations and offers from multiple
suitors, the Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy creator has closed a four-year deal
to stay at the Alphabet’s sister studio, ABC Studios, through 2018.”
