Awards, Women Directors

Women Directors Helmed Nearly 40% of Student Oscar Finalists

Female filmmakers directed or co-directed 38% of the shorts in the running for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 41st Student Academy Awards competition.

Female directors were best represented in the documentary genre, in which 6 of the 9 finalist films were helmed by women. Encouragingly, four of the nine contenders for the narrative category were made by female filmmakers as well.
