The Athena Film Festival has selected this year’s Athena IRIS Screenwriting Lab cohort. Eight women-written projects have made the cut. Their scribes will attend the Lab, a script development intensive, on February 28 and March 1, 2019, during the fest.
Designed for women screenwriters who have not yet had a feature-length script, pilot, or teleplay produced, the Lab is also a chance for participants to receive seasoned mentorship. Each of the selected scripts focuses on at least one woman in a leadership role.
Earlier this week Athena Fest announced its 2019 awardees. Attorney and Time’s Up founding member Nina Shaw will receive the Athena Award, “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” filmmaker Desiree Akhavan will be honored with the Breakthrough Award, and TIFF co-head Cameron Bailey will take home the Leading Man Award.
