Cohen Media Group has snagged North American rights to Tuva Novotny’s follow-up to “Blind Spot,” “Britt-Marie Was Here.” Variety broke the news.

Based on a bestselling novel, the Swedish dramedy centers on a 63-year-old woman (Pernilla August) who begins tor reconsider her life after leaving her husband of 40 years.

“We fell instantly in love with ‘Britt Marie’ and so will American audiences as soon as they discover her,” said John Kochman, executive vice president at Cohen Media Group.

Novotny made her feature directorial debut with 2018’s “Blind Spot,” an acclaimed portrait of a family dealing with a mental health crisis. “For me, ‘Blind Spot’ is about the blind spots in and around mental illness, what we don’t see or talk about,” the writer-director told us. “It’s about spreading awareness about the isolation one can feel when suffering from mental illness.” She revealed, “I experienced a personal lack of basic psychological tools and language to address mental illness, and I thought a movie might be able to put a focus on the area, and hopefully work preventatively.”

Also an actress, Novotny’s on-screen credits include “Annihilation.” “Borg vs McEnroe,” and “Eat Pray Love.”
