Thea Sharrock to Make Her Feature Directorial Debut

Acclaimed theater and TV director Thea Sharrock has signed on to adapt Jojo Moyes’ best-selling novel Me Before You for the big screen. The production will mark Sharrock’s feature directing debut.

Me Before You explores the friendship between Will, a former high-flying exec now bound to a wheelchair after a catastrophic accident, and Lou, a twenty-something woman from the English countryside who’s hired as his caretaker. Their relationship takes a turn when Lou discovers that Will plans to commit suicide.

Sharrock has previously directed episodes of the BBC miniseries The Hollow Crown and the series Call the Midwife. Her theater credits include Equus, The Sunshine Boys, The Misanthrope, and the Olivier Award-winning revival of After the Dance.

In 2001, a 24-year-old Sharrock became the youngest artistic director of a theater company when she ran London’s Southwark Playhouse.
