Sarah Polley, Nicole Holofcener, Sandra Bullock Big Winners of AWFJ Awards

We previously wrote about the Alliance of Women Film Journalist (AWFJ) nominations, about which the big takeaway was that “female critics have more or less the same tastes as their male counterparts.”

The AWFJ has announced their award winners, among whom Sarah Polley (Stories We Tell) was the only winner of a category not specifically designated for a women. Nicole Holofcener swept the writing and directing categories in the “Female Focus” portion of the awards for her winsome romantic comedy Enough Said.

Sandra Bullock and Lupita Nyong’o were the only two actresses who won multiple prizes. Bullock’s turn as an astronaut lost in space in Gravity garnered her a Kick Ass Award For Best Female Action Star and recognition as an Actress Defying Age and Ageism.
