“Rebel” creator Amani Walker has a female-led biker series in development at BET Networks. Deadline broke the news.
Titled “Black Mambas,” the one-hour New Orleans-set drama follows four fierce women bikers. The foursome are tired of the crime and injustice in their hometown and band together to take matters into their own hands
Salli Richardson-Whitfield is signed on to helm the pilot and exec produce. “The Chi,” “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” and “Black-ish” are among her directing credits. Also an actress, her on-screen credits include “Stitchers,” “Being Mary Jane,” and Ava DuVernay’s narrative feature debut, “I Will Follow.”
“Black Mambas” will be overseen by BET’s head of programming, Connie Orlando, and Senior Vice President Rose-Catherine Pinkney.
“Rebel” aired on BET in 2017. The one-season drama tells the story of Oakland police officer-turned-private investigator Rebecca “Rebel” Knight (Danielle Moné).
“I’m not intimidated by whomever is dominating the industry or fear I won’t be able to sell projects or work because of that,” Walker has said. “I believe in my voice and work enough to know that it will always find the right home at the right time.”
