Trailer Watch: Olivia Cooke and Anya Taylor-Joy Plot a Murder in “Thoroughbreds”

“Thoroughbreds”

“You cannot hesitate. The only thing worse than being incompetent or being unkind or being evil is being indecisive,” Amanda (Olivia Cooke, “Bates Motel”) warns her BFF Lily (Anya Taylor-Joy, “The Witch”) in a new trailer for “Thoroughbreds.”

The teens are entering dangerous territory, and Amanda wants to ensure Lily realizes just how high stakes are. They aren’t plotting to lie to their parents, cheat on a test, or shoplift — the goal is to commit and get away with murder. More specifically, the murder of Lily’s stepfather, a relentless scumbag who bullies Lily’s mother and threatens to send Lily to boarding school.

Lily and Amanda seek out a local hustler (Anton Yelchin) who owns a gun, but the spot makes it look like he ends up being more of a problem than a help.

The film, which has strong “Heathers” vibes, made its premiere at Sundance this year to positive reviews. You can catch “Thoroughbreds” in theaters beginning March 9.
