A new trailer for “Wild Rose” kicks off with aspiring country singer Rose-Lynn (Jessie Buckley) paying tribute to her hometown. “There’s no place like home,” she belts out in “Glasgow,” an original song. But the ex-convict dreams of distancing herself from her hometown and taking her talents all the way to Nashville.
Rose-Lynn’s lawyer has convinced the legal system that “she’s put her childish ways behind her” — but her mother (Julie Walters) would disagree. She believes Rose-Lynn has already sacrificed enough for the “fantasy” of pursuing a career in music and needs to grow up. It’s her who had to take care of Rose-Lynn’s children while her daughter was serving time behind bars, though the spot hints that she has more faith in Rose-Lynn and her talents than she’s letting on.
Buckley is receiving raves for her performance in “Wild Rose.” “The Woman in White,” “Taboo,” and “War & Peace” are among her previous credits.
“Wild Rose” is now playing in New York and Los Angeles. Nicole Taylor (“Three Girls”) penned the script.
