New Generation of Polish Filmmakers Hit Tribeca Film Center

From November 15th-17th, eighteen films by The New Generation of Polish Filmmakers will screen at the Tribeca Film Center. New York Women in Film and Television is the event partner alongside Munk Studios. Several female directed films are featured including the opening night film, Women’s Day, The first film from director Maria Sadowska. It recently won best picture and a $25,000 prize at Germany’s 22nd Cottbus Festival of Eastern European Film. It will also compete in the Warsaw Film Festival.

Women’s Day follows, Halina, a store cashier and her thirteen year old daughter. Dreaming of a better life for both of them, Halina is promoted to store manager where she becomes so caught up in her work that everything else falls by the wayside. In an interview with FilmNewEurope.com, Sadowska describes her film as a “feminist western.”
