Amazon Studio’s Head Jennifer Salke is “humbled and awed” by the streamer’s latest honor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she’s set to accept the Visionary Award at GLSEN’s upcoming Respect Awards in LA. The national education organization is dedicated to championing LGBTQ students and issues.
Set to take place October 25 in Beverly Hills, the event will recognize Amazon Studios’ support of the LGBTQ community “around issues like marriage equality and anti-discrimination laws,” THR writes. GLSEN emphasized how the streamer’s commitment to LGBTQ representation is shown through its projects such as “Transparent,” “Mozart in the Jungle,” “Danger & Eggs,” “and through partnerships that enable them to present the best in LGBTQ film on their platform.”
“We firmly believe that content should reflect our global society and that representation brings about understanding, acceptance, and the valuing of different perspectives,” Salke said in a statement. The exec added, “Allowing authentic voices the opportunity to reach a broad audience is key to changing the narrative for many underrepresented groups and we feel privileged to work in a place that supports that for storytellers.”
Salke previous served as entertainment president of NBC.
