Script About Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp Acquired by Amazon

Monica Lewinsky: TED/YouTube

Amazon has snagged the rights to the 2016 Black List script “Linda and Monica.” As The Hollywood Reporter writes, Flint Wainess’ (“Hollywood Heights”) screenplay tells the story of the complicated friendship between Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp.

The women became close friends when they worked in public affairs at the Pentagon. Both Lewinsky and Tripp became household names in the late ’90s when Tripp exposed Lewinsky’s sexual relationship with President Bill Clinton. Without Lewinsky’s knowledge, Tripp recorded their conversations about the affair. Tripp eventually “leaked the tapes, claiming that her motives were patriotic,” as THR summarizes. “The scandal and its repercussions included impeachment hearings.”

Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Steve Tisch are producing “Linda and Monica.”

Lewinsky — and presumably Tripp — will also play a role in an upcoming season of “American Crime Story.” Fox 21 TV Studios and FX Productions optioned the rights to Jeffrey Toobin’s “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down A President” for a future installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series. Released in 2000, the non-fiction bestseller chronicles the affair between White House intern Lewinsky and Clinton, and the political consequences of the scandal.

A director has yet to be announced for “Linda and Monica.”
