London musical hit “Six” will be making its way to the Broadway stage. It will begin previews February 13 and officially open March 12, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Written by Lucy Moss alongside Toby Marlow, the show began as a student submission to the 2017 Edinburgh Festival. It revamps the story of Henry VIII’s six wives, the Tudor Queens, in an original 21st-century pop-fueled performance. The show is backed by an all-female band nicknamed the “Ladies in Waiting.”
A 2018-19 West End production, the musical has enjoyed a successful tour since January. The show was nominated for five Olivier Awards, including Best Musical, and made its U.S. debut at Chicago’s Shakespeare Theatre in May.
Its Broadway home will be the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Moss and Jamie Armitage are set to direct.
“From its student beginnings at the Edinburgh Festival, via the West End, we’re absolutely thrilled to bring ‘Six’ to Broadway,” the show’s producers said. “Toby and Lucy have created an empowering musical about six of the most misrepresented women in history that couldn’t be more timely.”
Cast and ticket info have not yet been released.
