If all this television news continues, we are in for a lot of promising sounding female centric, female produced and female written shows. This time around Elizabeth Banks, Reese Witherspoon and Amy Poehler, Rachel Harris & Angela Kinsey are producing and creating shows for CBS, The CW, Comedy Central and Fox.
Elizabeth Banks is producing a comedy project, written by Elizabeth Wright Shapiro, that focuses on an Ivy League graduate who moves to Los Angeles for a professororial job. A self-described feminist, she moves in with two Playboy Bunny type women. While on the surface they seem like they have nothing in common, they learn that they are working towards similar goals.
Reese Witherspoon is executive producing an updated version of Charles Dickens’ classic novel, Great Expectations. The CW spin focuses on a girl who wants to make it big in San Francisco but who is quickly disillusioned about making it in a city. When she’s about to give up, a mysterious and wealthy benefactor comes to her rescue.
Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer’s hilarious webseries Broad City has been picked up for pilot at Comedy Central with Amy Poehler executive producing alongside the duo. The UCB alums will star and it will focus around their day to day lives in New York City with simultaneously hilarious and horrifying results.
Fox has given a put pilot commitment to Rachael Harris and Angela Kinsey’s Dirty Blondes based on their real life friendship of 16 years. Created by Harris, Kinsey and Stacy Traub, the show will focus specifically around the pair after they both divorce which brings them closer together. Straub will executive produce and Harris and Kinsey will co-executive produce.
