Addicted to “Big Little Lies” and anxiously awaiting confirmation of a second season? Well, here’s something to help tide you over. The author who wrote the novel the HBO murder mystery is based on has another story coming to the screen. Variety reports that CBS Films is adapting Liane Moriarty’s “The Husband’s Secret” into a film, and Blake Lively is set to star.
Published in 2013, the best-selling book centers on a wife, mother, and perfectionist “who inadvertently discovers that her husband has been keeping a secret from her for years … a secret that leads her to realize that her life is built on a foundation of lies and murder,” Variety summarizes.
Lively is among the project’s executive producers.
“Liane Moriarty has established herself as one of the defining voices of the modern woman and Blake Lively’s unique combination of vulnerability, strength, and extraordinary talent makes her the perfect actress to realize Moriarty’s creation,” said CBS Films President Terry Press.
No details have been announced regarding who will write and/or direct “The Husband’s Secret.”
Lively recently signed on to topline “Bruised,” a drama about a mother and disgraced MMA fighter who’s at risk of losing her son to the authorities.
The “Gossip Girl” alumna’s recent credits include shark thriller “The Shallows” and romantic drama “The Age of Adaline.” Earlier this year she accepted the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Dramatic Movie Actress for the former. In her speech, Lively thanked her mom for teaching her about “girl power.” “My mom, she always taught me as a kid that you can’t ever let anyone limit you. Don’t ever let anyone tell you there’s something you can’t do,” she said. The “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” star added, “Watching this movie, and the women nominated in this category [Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Julia Roberts, and Meryl Streep] — when you guys voted for this, you didn’t just vote for this movie or me, but you voted for girl power… And men voted for girl power, too, and you guys are awesome for doing that.”
