Misha Green is on a roll. Just weeks ago it was announced that the “Underground” co-creator is set to serve as showrunner on “Lovecraft Country,” a new HBO project that received a straight-to-series order, and now comes the news that Netflix has purchased the rights to a spec script she wrote. Deadline reports that “several bidders chased” the script for “Mother,” a female-led action-thriller. The streaming giant eventually snagged the rights in a seven-figure deal.
“Mother” is said to be “reminiscent of ‘The Professional’ and ‘La Femme Nikita’” and has franchise potential.
“Lovecraft Country” is based on a 2015 novel and follows Atticus Black, a 25-year-old man who seeks answers after his father goes missing. According to Deadline, “The goal is an anthological horror series that reclaims genre storytelling from the African-American perspective.”
The final episode of “Underground’s” second season aired last month. The WGN drama centers on the Underground Railroad.
Green has also written for series such as “Heroes” and “Sons of Anarchy.”
