Linda Bloodworth Thomason and Jodie Foster Take On New Directing Projects

Two new exciting female directed projects were announced yesterday.

The first, from Designing Women creator, Linda Bloodworth Thomason is Bridegroom, a Kickstarter funded documentary, raising $384,376 in just over 4 weeks, a Kickstarter record. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, Bridegroom, about marriage equality, sprung from Shane Bitney Crone’s It Could Happen to You You Tube video, which told Bitney Crone’s story about his partner of six years, Tom Bridegroom. The couple planned to marry once it was legal in California, but Bridegroom unexpectedly died in a tragic accident. His homophobic parents wouldn’t allow Crone to attend the funeral or burial.

Crone’s story received over 3 million views as well as many celebrity supporters. Thomason had met the couple at a wedding and contacted Crone to see if he would be interested in expanding the video into a documentary. Crone will be producing with Bloodworth Thomason and they hope to release the film before November’s election.

And in television news, Jodie Foster is heading to Showtime to direct and executive produce Angie’s Body. As Deadline reports, Angie’s Body focuses on an intelligent, beautiful and deadly woman who runs a family-based crime organization. The show will be written by Rob Fresco. This will be Foster’s first television directing project. This will reunite Foster with Showtime, with her only previous television producing project, The Baby Dance. As of now, it is not known whether Foster will take a role in Angie’s Body.
