Trailer Watch: A Dying Woman Considers One Last Fling in Joan Carr-Wiggin’s “Love of My Life”

“Love of My Life”

“I’m happily married and dying — not the best time to start dating [my] ex,” Grace (Anna Chancellor, “This Beautiful Fantastic”) says in the trailer for “Love of My Life.” Too bad no one agrees with her.

Grace is fairly zen when she learns she has a brain tumor. Doctors might be able to surgically remove it, or they might not. No matter what happens, Grace just wants things to remain as normal as possible. That’s when her ex, Richard (John Hannah, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”), shows up. He’s convinced himself that he’s the love of Grace’s life and is determined to win her back before it’s too late.

It’s not long before Grace’s husband (James Fleet, “Outlander”), Richard, and an unnamed third party (Greg Wise, “The Crown”) start very politely competing for Grace’s affections.

For her part, Grace maintains that she’s doesn’t want to rekindle any former romances. “Of course you do,” her friend Tamara (Hermione Norris, “Cold Feet”) retorts. “You want one last fling: I want one last fling and I’m not even dying.”

“Love of My Life” is written and directed by Joan Carr-Wiggin. Her previous credits include “Happily Ever After” and “If I Were You.” Carr-Wiggin’s next film, “The Bet,” is currently in post-production. The comedy centers on a who woman bets her husband that she’ll inspire the next man she meets to propose.

“When I ask smart, capable young women working on set, ‘Hey, why don’t you think about directing?’ most of them immediately reply, ‘Oh I could never do that.’ Why do they think that? They think that because too many people are saying women can’t do the job,” Carr-Wiggin wrote in a guest post for Women and Hollywood. “Well I’m here to say that they can do it, and we have to fight the propaganda that tells women that directing is not a job for them. So yes, women, it is a job for us.”

“Love of My Life” will be available on VOD and DVD October 31.
