“Hunger Games” alumna Isabelle Fuhrman has signed on to star in “Tape,” a timely indie drama sure to be associated with the #MeToo movement. Written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier and based on a true story, the Full Moon Films’ pic sees Fuhrman playing an ambitious actress who crosses paths with a Harvey Weinstein-like producer.

The pair meet at an open call audition. It’s not long before he invites her to his hotel to discuss a potential role. “What he doesn’t know is that another actress (Annarosa Mudd) is waiting to exact her revenge against him,” Deadline summarizes.

“The screenplay is based on the events that occurred to a dear friend of mine whose story I knew needed to be told,” said Kampmeier in a statement. “This was before the #MeToo movement took hold of the country and shone a light on very serious issues that have been ignored for too long. Two years ago, when I wrote the script, I couldn’t get this film made. Now, we go into production in two weeks.”

Kampmeier, who most recently directed 2016’s “Split,” will produce alongside Veronica Nickel (“First Match”). The writer-director previously teamed up with Fuhrman on her 2007 feature debut “Hounddog.”

“I feel that the most beautiful art comes from a deeply personal place,” Kampmeier told us in 2016. “I feel the more personal the work the more universal it is. That’s what I’m aiming to do — tell my personal stories and express myself as an artist. I hope that as I dig deep into myself, other women see reflections of themselves there. But the fact that these stories are about the experience of being a woman in the world can make them feel political. Just making a film as a woman is a political act,” she observed.

Best known for playing Clove in “The Hunger Games,” Fuhrman’s other credits include “Masters of Sex” and “Orphan.”

Filming on “Tape” is expected to kick off in New York next month.
