What Women Directed Films Should Have Been Considered for Cannes?

I am over the anger of this morning’s Cannes lineup and on to the next step — action. A tweet from Katey Rich asked me what films I thought should have been included in the lineup and I have to say honestly, I have no idea. I know there are films by women from all across the globe that may have been considered, or should have been considered, but I admit I don’t know any of them.

So this post is for all of you producers, people who run distribution companies, film festivals, country representatives, programmers, directors, funders, anyone and everyone who has access to films before we in the media get to know about them.

I ask you to share with us some titles that should have been on the mind of the people at Cannes. Let’s start getting the names of women out as part of the conversation.

Either post the names of the films and the directors in the comments or send it to me at [email protected]

Here is an opportunity to be pro-active. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: Here’s one from me- how about Susanne Bier’s film All You Need is Love. It sold to many territories in Berlin so it must be close to being finished. Bier is an Academy Award winning director for her film In a Better World so her work should be considered in the same breathe as any male director even if this film is not a hard hitting political film like her last one.
