Viola Davis to Play Congresswoman Barbara Jordan

Maybe this could be the one to put Viola Davis up on the stage on Oscar night with a win in her column. Several reports state that Davis is circling to star in and produce a biopic on the trailblazing Texas Congresswoman — Barbara Jordan. Jordan was a leader in the civil rights movement and was the first black woman elected to the House from the South.

She was also the first African American woman to deliver the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in 1976 and she keynoted it again in 1992. Wikipedia says that she had a female partner for 30 years but was never out. Davis will produce the film with her husband Julius Tennon and they have optioned the book Barbara Jordan: American Hero by Mary Beth Rogers.
