The Hollywood Reporter published its annual list of the most powerful women in entertainment yesterday and the news is that women rule TV and really don’t have enough power in the film business. I guess that really shouldn’t surprise most people, but when you look at the list (which is of course subjective) you can see how much work women have to do. Also, if you were wondering why you like cable more than the networks you will notice that women have a lot of power in the cable business.
Other things of note:
- The Bridesmaids Effect — the cast made it to the list at #44. Tina Fey was the only other female actress on the list. No dramatic actresses made the list.
- Only one female director — Jennifer Yuh Nelson — Kung Fu Panda 2
- Not enough women of color
- Lady Gaga is number 30.

I guess some good news is that there is consistency in this list especially at the top level with Anne Sweeney holding the top spot for the third year in a row. Oprah did make the top 10 this year and now without her daily show she ranks at number 20.
