Lisa Aschan Wins $800,000 From Stockholm Film Fund

Director Lisa Aschan whose first film She Monkeys won the best narrative feature at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival is the inaugural recipient of the Stockholm Film Fund. She receives $800,000 towards her second film The Deposit which she will co-write and direct.

This is part of an effort by the Swedish Film Institute to ensure that 40% of all Swedish films are either written, directed or produced by women. It’s no surprise that the Swedes are working towards gender parity on this issue. Sweden is one of the leaders on gender parity and has the highest levels of women on corporate boards.

Now we just need other countries to invest more in women directors and storytellers
