The stars behind “The First Wives Club” are re-teaming. Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, and Diane Keaton will topline “Family Jewels,” a multigenerational family comedy that’s been acquired by New Republic Pictures. A press release announced the news.
Eyeing a 2020 production start, the project sees Hawn, Midler, and Keaton “forced to spend the Christmas holidays together, along with their kids and grandkids, after the man they were all once married to drops dead in a New York City department store.”
“Family Jewels” will mark the first time that the iconic trio have appeared on screen together since 1996’s “The First Wives Club,” a comedy about three ex-wives determined to get what they’re owed when their husbands dump them for younger women.
“The chemistry of Diane, Bette, and Goldie is unmatched and irresistible, and I’m thrilled to help reunite them on screen for generations of fans,” said New Republic’s Bradley Fischer, who is among “Family Jewels'” producers.
“The First Wives Club,” which took in over $181 million worldwide, served as inspiration for a TV series of the same name created by “Girls Trip” scribe Tracy Oliver. The BET comedy has been renewed for a second season, but a premiere date has yet to be announced.
