Women and Hollywood has temporarily suspended our recommendations newsletter. We’ll be sharing some of the week’s highlights in TV, VOD, and streaming via blog posts.
“The Good Fight” has become a tonic for the soul. CBS All Access’ “Good Wife” spinoff has unapologetically taken on the Trump Show better than any other ongoing series.
Season 4’s premiere is a joyous look at an upside down world in which everyone except Diane Lockhart (the always fantastic Christine Baranski) believes that Hillary Clinton won the 2016 election. She spends the episode trying to accept this is true, while realizing that certain post-2016 events — most notably the #metoo movement — never happened. In fact, Harvey Weinstein is still in power and Diane’s firm (featuring some of the best actors in the business — Audra McDonald, Delroy Lindo, Michael Boatman) is representing him.
The episode, entitled “The Gang Deals With Alternate Reality,” creates this dichotomy where one is made to wonder whether the national mood during a Hillary Clinton presidency would have receptive to the #metoo movement — and ultimately whether we would have been better off. The answer is yes, but shit, the episode delivers great joy, along with lots of stomach churning.
“The Good Fight” has been daring from the beginning, and this season promises to keep pushing the line.
“The Good Fight’s” Season 4 premiere is now available on CBS All Access. New episodes drop on Thursdays.
